The Narrative Theory
- Equilibrium Phase: It is a peaceful night. A group of friends are drinking around a bonfire. One female decides she wants to slip away with another person attending the get-together to go swimming.
- Disruption Phase: The shark attacks and kills her. City officials decide to keep the incident discreet since the holiday weekend is approaching.
- Realization Phase: Days later, the shark strikes again and kills a young boy swimming at the beach. City officials decide to temporarily shut down the beach. They offer a monetary award for whomever can catch and kill the shark. A group of ndividuals kills a different, much smaller shark. However, officials use this as an excuse to re-open the beach. When yet another person is killed, officials decide the shark responsible for the deaths must be captured in order to save the island's reputation.
- Restored Order Phase: Three men (the protagonists) venture off to sea in attempt to kill the shark. Several of their ideas fail after realizing the true size of the animal. One is eaten.
- Equilibrium Restored Phase: A gas tank is thrown into the sharks mouth by the main protagonist, then lit on fire. The shark blows up, finally dead. The two surviving men swim to shore.
